Breathable Vent Card
Breathability with Airtight Seal
CPI foam have developed the breathable vent card system to meet Irish building regulations requirement that a 50mm air gap be maintained between the roofing deck or felt and the insulation material.
The reasoning behind the regulations are simple, escaping water vapour from showers, cooking, breathing etc needs to leave the building. Otherwise, if not properly ventilated damp and mold will form creating a dangerous living environment for you and your family. To prevent mold and damp forming water needs to passing through the insulation into the air gap and then to the outside air.
Preventing Condensation and Mold
Open cell spray foam insulation is the best type of insulation to be used in a residential buildings. Open cell spray foam is 'breathable' allowing moisture to escape the building while maintaining a airtight seal.
If you roof is counter battened then the foam can be sprayed directly on the felt as the air gap is maintained between the battens and the roof slates or tiles.
E:zeros E:500 Open Cell "breathable" insulation foam is spray-applied on the job site. As it is sprayed, it increases in volume up to 100-120 times, providing a fully adhered and airtight insulation layer, preventing frozen pipes in winter and keeping your home warm and cosy.
Because it is sprayed, the foam fits all shapes, corners, and cavities perfectly. Our system is totally breathable due to the use of our own fully breathable Vent Card as seen in the diagram.
